Emerging Technology - Hypervideo

computing.jpgWith the increasing amount of video content in websites and blogs the logical step is to make them interactive by linking them with hypervideo technology, much like what hyperlink did to text.

In this context, the web-based tool recently launched by Asterpix, a startup company based in California seems to be riding the crest of this wave of the future.

With this tool, creators can place links, or “hot spots,” in their videos which viewers could click to get more information directly on the screen or to connect to other videos or sites just like what they do with hypertext links. Hotspots could be placed on tires on a car in a video or the shirt of the driver, which once clicked would provide detailed information on price and other details. Vendors could also use the technology to promote their products.

As hypervideo technology becomes cost-effective it would enable the integration of web and video publishing and this would usher in a new frontier in internet with interactive web-video content.
